What is Bioperine?
It is an extract of black pepper, which has been shown to improve the absorption of a number of nutrients. Studies have demonstrated that it also improves the uptake of curcuminoids, which normally are difficult to absorb. By adding the 5 mg. of Bioperine®, we have improved the bioavailability of the curcuminoids in the product. The 5 mg. dosage, by-the-way, is that recommended by Sabinsa, manufacturer of both the curcuminoids and the piperine extract, trademarked Bioperine®.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
Curcuminoids are the brilliant orange pigments extracted from the root of Turmeric Curcuma longa plant. They belong to the family of polyphenols that includes all bioflavonoids, flavans and flavanols. All polyphenols are antioxidants, with certain groups being stronger than others. Curcuminoids are among the most powerful of the antioxidants.
The extract is more than 95% Curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin & bisdemethoxycurcumin), bio-active phenolic compounds renowned for free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity.
Curcuminoids have historically and traditionally been used to protect against digestive disorders, liver disease, jaundice, urinary disorders, skin problems, aid in wound healing, and arthritic and allergic inflammations. In this last application, research demonstrates anti-inflammatory activity comparable to indomethacin and phenylbutazone. Maximized Curcuminoids 1000 was introduced into the Vibrant Health line at the request of naturopathic physicians. It is the highest potency Curcuminoid product available in our industry.
The anti inflammatory power of Curcuminoids comes from inhibiting enzymes that synthesize inflammatory leucotriens, prostaglandins and prostocyclins from arachidonic acid, (the ubiquitous omega-6 fatty acid so widespread in the western diet). Additional anti-inflammatory support comes from direct free radical scavenging. Curcuminoids’ anti-oxidant power, also significantly blocks serum lipid peroxidization (as do many anti-oxidants), resulting in significant reduction of serum peroxides and oxidized cholesterol.
The Curcuminoids have shown ability to inhibit mutagenesis and carcinogenesis in laboratory animals, to enhance the urinary excretion of tobacco mutagens and to inhibit aflatoxins, potent carcinogins generated by mould Aspergillus parasiticus found commonly on corn and peanuts. Curcuminoids also benefit the gastrointestinal tract by inhibiting growth of gram positive and gram negative pathogenic bacteria, fungal and intestinal parasites.
